I have already mentioned in my previous post my Cuba vacation, characterized by colonial architecture, relaxation on the beach and also hiking in parks and nature reserves.
Today I want to dwell on this last part and tell you about the most adventurous, natural and wild aspect of Cuba.
If you are organizing a classic itinerary, you won’t certainly miss a visit to Trinidad, one of the Cuban cities designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site. From this city you can reach some of the most pristine natural reserves of the island located on the Sierra d’Escambay. In particular I chose an excursion to Topes de Collantes and Parque Guanayara, where dirt paths will lead you to the discovery of dense vegetation, coffee plantations and finally waterfalls that form natural pools where you can dive for a refreshing bath (and believe me, you will need it).
The area of Vinales and Pinar del Rio, 3 hours away from Havana, offers a truly unique landscape characterized by strange forms of Mongotes dating back to Jurassic period and it will be for you to organize a horseback ride inside the Valley Of Silence. From time to time you can stop by to admire the panorama or explore one of the many caves in the area.
Don’t forget to pack with you comfortable sports clothes allowing to deal with these paths, more or less challenging on the basis of your preparation.
I have chosen garments by The North Face, with some durable Flash Dry XD fabric with breathable technology particularly suited to the warm and humid climate of Cuba.
