I took my first and only surf lesson so far during my vacation in Hawaii and I won’t hide that the satisfaction in being able to ride the wave is unparalleled.
Not excluding therefore the repetition of the experience, perhaps taking advantage of one of the beaches in Europe where it is possible to look for the perfect wave … which in my case must not exceed 1 meter of height 🙂

El Hierro – Fuerteventura

On this small island surrounded by the ocean the wind seems to never stop blowing, to the delight of all the surfers! Among the European beaches for surfing you could not miss El Hierro, where you can combine sports, food and relaxation while waiting for one of the most popular waves in the world, The Bubble: only for real experts

Mundaka – Spain

This beach is located near Bilbao, within the Urdabai Biosphere Reserve, and therefore offers unspoiled nature. But this is not the main attraction for the surfers who frequent it, but the wave of Mundaka, considered one of the best left-wing in Europe and perhaps in the world. It is a long and concave wave, which can reach up to 400 meters long and 6 meters high, certainly reserved for experienced surfers.

Supertubos (Peniche) – Portugal

It is an almost Hawaiian wave that characterizes this Portuguese beach: it is in fact a wave with a perfect tubular shape, with ridges so long that they create real “tubes” much loved by surfers from all over the world.
The best time to go is October, and it is precisely during this month that since 2010 this beach hosts a stage of the Surf World Championship (WCT) – RipCurl Pro Search.

La Gravière (Hossegor) – France

La Gravière beach is one of the most popular European surf spots, so much so that it has been nicknamed “the surfing capital of Europe”. Here the winds are powerful and the immense waves, dominated only by the best surfers, break on marvelous sand banks. The beach is about 40 minutes from Biarritz and you can surf all year long.

Capo Mannu – Italy

Even Italy can boast a small paradise for surfers: the beach of Capo Mannu, a few kilometers from Oristano, is in fact one of the best places to surf in Europe.
This rocky head is exposed to all the winds of the western quadrants, but in particular to the mistral, which manages to create very consistent waves that reach even 4 meters in height.

Bundoran (Donegal) – Ireland

Ireland is not the first country that comes to mind when it comes to surfing, yet it has many perfect places for surfing in Europe. Among these, the best known is Bundoran, a fishing village that offers beaches and cliffs suitable for more or less experienced surfers. The best time to tackle the waves here is from September to November: the cold can discourage you, but the fiercest surfers swear it’s worth it!

Watergate Bay (Cornovaglia) – Gerat Britain

Cornwall is home to many of the most popular surf spots in Britain and Europe. One example is Watergate Bay, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and also suitable for those taking their first steps on the surfboard thanks to its waves ranging from 30 centimeters to 3 meters in height. How not to mention the renowned Fistral Bay and Sennen Cove, which offers the most experienced some of the best waves on the British coast?

Fehmarn (Schleswig – Holstein) – Germany

One of the best places to practice surfing in Germany is Fehmarn, which offers about twenty spots capable of guaranteeing waves suitable for surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers of all levels, to the point of being nicknamed “the Hawaii of Germany”. Not only: the picturesque surroundings and the quality of services make it for sure one of the best places to surf in Europe!
