Darwin is the only Australia’s capital located in the tropical zone and is actually closer to Indonesia than to other major Australian cities… maybe that’s why it is so different and far from the other cities that you will meet during your trip, but I assure you that it will be the same reason why you will love it.

Darwin allows you to realize your childhood fantasies about Australia, made of aboriginal populations, crocodiles and wild nature. You can get a taste of these ingredients also in the city, but you are entering into some of the famous parks of the surroundings that will fully enter the spirit.

Kakadu National Park

Besides being the best known park, the Kakadu perfectly represents the connection between the native population and the territory that they have cultivated, cared for and respected for hundreds of generations; the park contains a spectacular periodically flooded and parched ecosystem and a considerable concentration of rock paintings.

During the two days spent in the park, we could take a boat trip on the Yellow Water to admire the wonderful wildlife including saltwater crocodiles, called “saulty”, considered among the most dangerous predators in the world and certainly the biggest crocodiles in the world considering that they reach 7 meters in length.

We did not even miss the 25,000 year-old cave paintings of Ubirr made with natural ochres and depicting scenes of life and legends as well as a swim in the natural pools at the foot of the waterfalls … once they were discovered they were not infested with crocodiles!

Litchfield Natural Park

Although not as famous as the Kakadu the Litchfield is definitely a park not to be missed: it is small, simple to visit and includes a series of natural pools (in this case without the risk of crocodiles) and waterfalls with crystal clear waters that you will hardly resist . Another peculiarity of the park are the termites of the compass termites that can reach 5 meters in height, so as to be called “cathedral”.
