Sports aren’t just physical wellness — they’re quality time shared.
My husband and I were never true athletes, but sports have always been part of our bond. Running, hiking, snowboarding, even a little boogie woogie — we’ve always loved challenging ourselves together, supporting each other through it all.
Since our kids were born, time for workouts has become scarce. Days fly by in a whirlwind of naps, meals, and toys scattered everywhere. And when there’s finally a quiet moment, exhaustion often kicks in first.
Still, we remind ourselves how important it is to make space for couple workouts. Not just for staying fit, but to keep our connection alive. It’s one of the most beautiful ways we can spend real quality time together.
Outdoor activities for two
- Hiking or walking on weekends, with a kid backpack if needed.
- Relay running: one runs, the other plays with the kids — then swap.
- Bodyweight workouts outdoors with a splash of fun.
We’ve learned to let go of old expectations. Our performance isn’t what it used to be — and that’s okay. We’re giving ourselves time. We focus on the joy of the moment: the contact, the shared smiles, the simple pleasure of being together.
With the kids… but also without
When we can, we try to include the kids in our workouts: little forest paths, balance games, tiny bikes. Watching them move with us is heartwarming. But sometimes we need a moment just for us — a short run, a swim, a yoga session. These little windows make a huge difference.
Sport as a couple — even in the chaos — remains our compass. A way to reconnect, to sweat together, and to keep evolving — despite everything, or maybe because of it.
